It's
a well know fact in the Landscape Industry that you can’t
better Mother Nature. In nature, the most obvious and certainly
effective and efficient water filtering systems are those of wetlands.
What makes a wetland such a good filter? The easiest way to explain
this is to think of a wetland as a giant sponge. Natural wetlands
are nature’s filters. Wetlands help to purify water by reducing
nutrients, filtering out sediments and heavy metals, breaking down
toxic compounds and digesting pathogens.

|
It was
only a matter of time before Aquascape Designs, Inc. developed another
method of filtering a waterfeature that uses plants as the primary
filter medium, just like a wetlands. The Aquascape Designs, Inc.
system is a subsurface flow system with water flowing laterally
through gravel. Wetlands are able to remove sediment and increase
water clarity by slowing the velocity of water, causing the sediment
and debris to drop out of suspension. Aquascape Designs, Inc. designed
this very feature into their system. The water entering their wetlands
filter experiences a 93% reduction in flow rate.

We've
finally taken all the guesswork out of bog and wetlands construction.
The new constructed wetlands filters Snorkel Vault and Centipede
Module are modular in design. They allow builders the flexibility
to expand the system to meet their project’s needs. So, next
time you are installing a waterfeature, consider this new filtration
technology. Contact us with your questions or for input on your
next wetlands project.

Pondsaway Wetland
Project
|
|
In Pondsaway's
continued commitment to environmentally friendly landscape systems,
products, and equipment, we have undertaken a wetlands filtration
project for roof run off in front of our warehouse located at 2800
S. Rodeo Gulch Road, Suite B, in Soquel. Drop by any time and check
out how it works. Using the Snorkel Vault and Centipede
Module, the run off will be cleansed before entering the storm drains
and exiting into the ocean.

Notice
roof runoff diversion (in upper middle of picture). Water up wells
through the wetland over the cascades and eventually terminates
in a rain garden where it percolates into the ground

Soquel Creek Wetlands
Restoration Project

The proposed demonstration
wetlands project at the mouth of Soquel Creek in the City of Capitola
has continued to wind it's way through the various governmental
departments necessary to become a reality. Pondsaway provides
wetlands consultation services to government bodies, golf courses,
housing developments, etc.

Watsonville
Wetlands Education Center
|
|
Pondsaway
became a founding donor of the lab at the new Watsonville Wetlands
Education Center soon to be located on the campus of the new Pajaro
Valley High School. This unique joint venture between the City of
Watsonville, the Pajaro Valley Unified School District and Watsonville
Wetlands Watch will provide the perfect setting for educating students
as well as the general public about the importance of our wetlands.
